The score for Arabian Nights is total trash. It's actually trashier than Ankles Aweigh (another Decca cast recording of the era by the way) and that's so bad it's actually funny. As Noel Coward wrote, "Strange, how potent cheap music is."

I would agree - both shows are trashy fun. As Barb Jungr would say, "a classic for all the wrong reasons." I would love to see the Charles Busch version of ANKLES AWEIGH! (He seems to have transformed it from unintentional satire to deliberate satire.). There's a great clip of the Kean Sisters doing a whole seen from ANKLES on THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW, and supposedly Lombardo included some numbers from ARABIAN NIGHTS on his TV show, but I've never seen any of those ... anyhow, thanks for reading & subscribing!

Reading Caro's book is like watching a car crash in slow motion-as Moses almost single handedly destroys so much of what gave the New York city area its character and uniqueness to achieve his vision of.....something and so many just stood by and watched it happen either with glee or horror or both. I wonder if Coppola's MEGALOPOLIS had Moses as some of its inspiration.
