Frank C Reardon was a friend of mine. I met Frank around 1986 (ish) in San Juan Capistrano CA. He came to work for my brother and I, running one of our call centers in South Orange County. Frank and I hit it off right away, possible because we shared a love of scotch and good weed. We hung out for about a year, hitting our favorite happy hours or hanging at his house. I liked hanging at Franks because he had his keyboard and writing desk set up in his living room and I fancied myself somewhat of a lyricist... no, nothing published (by me). We would riff song ideas and jot down melodies.
By the time we met, the crooner days were all but gone, so Frank supplemented his income writing non-denominational 'church' songs. They were easy and he was pretty good at it. Frank left after about a year and went back east, I believe to be near his daughter, so we lost touch. But, yes, there really WAS a Frank Reardon, he was a good guy and a friend of mine.
that is fascinating! I had no doubt that he was real, but we still don't know how he connected with Jimmy Van Heusen and Sinatra. Yes, fascinating! thanks.
A fascinating read (as always)!
"Rumple" has a very intriguing plot; it was a shame it didn't work out.
